EM Germany Newsletter CW 45/2021 | Using social dialogue across borders – European public diplomacy
Our member organisations are present almost everywhere in Europe, first and foremost our political foundations and the foreign offices of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), but also other players such as the Center for European Policy (CEP), Stiftung Mercator, the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ). Together with these and other EM Germany member organisations, we aim to promote modern networked European politics without national silo-thinking. We offer the new German federal government in terms of content and structure an overview for cross-border structural exchange between democratic forces that transcends state-owned settings.
Our concept European Public Diplomacy combines our cooperation with the German Foreign Office and European domestic policies. In our memorandum on the current coalition negotiations, we call for a better inclusion of social forces and political expertise from within Europe. As this week’s chart #EBDGrafik shows,we aim to build bridges for lasting dialogue with German embassies, associations and federations in European capitals in order to tap expertise and provide strategic impetus for German European policy. In short, our aim is to strengthen the European policy reflex in domestic politics. The new German government should seize this opportunity in the spirit of its new modern claim to shape German policies and start reforming German European policy.
