EM Germany newsletter CW 28/2020 | Cross-border activities under #EU2020DE

Germany’s EU Council Presidency is facing manifold challenges – from shaping the EU Recovery Plan and the next Multiannual Financial Framework to fostering the Rule of Law and putting into place the Conference on the Future of Europe. In its EU2020DE activities, EM Germany takes advantage of virtual dialogue formats and pushes for cross-border exchanges and cooperation between the political, institutional and civil society spheres.

As the German EU Council Presidency kicks off, we extended our international projects: This week, we are hosting four dialogues with EU Commission Vice Presidents and Commissioners – all in English, and all streamed over our YouTube channel. At the same time, we are fostering cooperation with our sister organisations under the umbrella of EMI and other partners all across Europe, like the German Embassy in Rome. We work towards a European Public Diplomacy that stretches beyond state representatives.

As the EU Council Presidency rotates, cross-border cooperation remains important. Thus, we decided to publish our weekly newsletter also in English. Feel free to sign up!

I am looking forward to exchanging views with you. Stay safe, and have a good week!

Bernd Hüttemann
Secretary General

#EBDFokus: Cross-border activities under #EU2020DE

„We foster cross-border dialogue on all levels in order to give not only state representatives, but also federations, corporations, social partners and other stakeholders the opportunity to communicate with each other.“ This is how the General Assembly translates the statutes of EM Germany into its annual work plan. +++ Thus, as of July 20 (tbc.), we are switching to multilingual discussions: De-Briefing after meetings of the EU Council will be translated simultaneously into English and Italian. +++ English only is the language of four dialogues with EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders, Trade Commissar Phil Hogan, Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides und Environment Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius this week, and of our dialogue „Coordination of social security systems – How to go digital?“ with MEP Gabriele Bischoff. +++ A proud member of European Movement International (EMI), we were to co-host its Federal Assembly November 19/20 in Berlin – that was, before COVID19. Now, a digital meeting is in the making. EM Germany’s General Assembly is also featuring an international side event on the German EU Council Presidency. +++ Which members are active at EU level or in other European countries? Our website lists the European federations of our member organisations and complies sister organisations in other European countries e.g. Italy.
