Am 2. Mai 1951 wurde die Bundesrepublik Deutschland Vollmitglied des Europarates. Deutschland kehrte damit in die europäische Gemeinschaft der Staaten zurück, die die Grundwerte des Europarats teilen: Achtung vor den Menschenrechten, vor Demokratie und Rechtsstaatlichkeit. Anlässlich des 70. Jubiläums der Vollmitgliedschaft Deutschlands im Europarat richten das Auswärtige Amt und die Europäische Bewegung Deutschland e.V. (EBD) gemeinsam eine Online-Festveranstaltung am 4. Mai 2021 aus.

Gemeinsam mit Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der Bundesregierung, des Bundestags, des Europarates und gesellschaftlicher Kräfte werden wir den Blick auf die Historie der Mitgliedschaft und aktuelle Herausforderungen und Themen diskutieren.

Der Festakt wird simultan gedolmetscht auf Deutsch und Englisch stattfinden.

70 Years of Germany as Full Member of the Council of Europe

On 2nd May 1951, the Federal Republic of Germany became a full member of the Council of Europe. Germany had thereby returned to the European community of states which share the basic values of the Council of Europe: Respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law. To mark the 70th anniversary of Germany’s full membership of the Council of Europe, the Federal Foreign Office and the European Movement Germany (EBD) are jointly organising a celebratory online event on 4 May 2021.

Together with representatives of the Federal Government, the Bundestag, the Council of Europe and social forces, we will take a look at the history of membership and discuss current challenges and issues.

The ceremony will be conducted with simultaneous interpretation in German and English.
