BDI | High Energy Meets Low Carb – Boosting Innovative Low-Carbon Technologies for Europe’s Energy-Intensive Industries
The Federation of German Industries (BDI), the European Commission and the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union cordially invite you to this virtual event on Friday, June 3, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In addition to clean energy, developing and taking-up low-carbon technologies is key to meeting the EU Green Deal’s carbon emissions targets for 2030 and 2050. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has furthermore strengthened the case for Europe to accelerate the green transition and become more resource efficient. In this context, decarbonizing the energy-intensive industries (chemicals, iron & steel, cement and other industries), responsible for 17% of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU, has become even more urgent.
The European Research Area (ERA) roadmap for low-carbon technologies in energy-intensive industries, published in April 2022, provides a list of key emerging low-carbon technologies and outlines ways to leverage research &innovation (R&I) investments to accelerate their development and uptake. It falls under the new ERA policy agenda 2022-2024, which calls for a better and accelerated transfer of R&I results into the economy. Its findings will feed R&I priorities into the implementation of the updated EU Industrial Strategy.
In this virtual event broadcasted via livestream, the European Commission will present the main findings of the report. Afterwards high-level experts from EU Member States, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federation of German Industries (BDI) will discuss next steps for implementation of the technology roadmap.
Online participation is possible without restrictions. The event will be streamed on the BDI-Website. A link will be provided the day before the event to those who have registered. On the day of the event our livestream viewers will have the possibility to ask questions and are welcome to take part in a survey via Slido using the eventcode: #ERA22
