EBD international briefing with Michael Roth, Minister of State for Europe | 24.06.2020
„Together for Europe’s recovery“ is the claim of the German Presidency of the EU Council. The federal government is assuming the presidency on 1 July with the key task to guide Europe out of the crisis.
As foreign minister Heiko Maas puts it on the official presidency website that was pre-launched in May: „We want our Presidency to serve the European cause. We want to provide impetus and be an honest broker. Overcoming the COVID-19 crisis is both a top priority and an opportunity – we must more closely integrate with our partner countries, develop greater internal solidarity and become stronger and more sovereign toward the outside world.“
What are the main challenges of the EU Council Presidency in times of corona? Which dossiers are a top priority to the Federal Government, and how much room for manoeurve is there for particular emphases?
Together with Michael Roth MdB, Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office and incoming President of the General Affairs Council, we will explore and discuss key topics and and strategies of the German EU Council Presidency – for the first time, and thanks to videoconferencing, in an international format involving interest group representatives across Europe. The event will be chaired by EBD president Dr. Linn Selle.
We are looking forward to discussing with you!
