EBD Briefing: Portuguese EU Council Presidency

On 1 January, Portugal takes over the Presidency of the EU Council, under the motto “Time to deliver: a fair, green and digital recovery”, in line with the programme agreed by the Trio of Presidencies Germany-Portugal-Slovenia. Against the challenging background of the covid-19 pandemic, Portugal’s main priority is to reinforce Europe’s resilience and confidence in the European social model, by giving impetus to the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and the Commission’s Action Plan. The programme of the Portuguese Presidency will also focus on:
Implementing the MFF and NextGenerationEU
Promoting the European Green Deal and the climate agenda
Fostering European leadership in the digital economy
Strengthening EU’s global leadership and relationships with its international partners, placing Africa at the top of the external agenda; emphasis on the Southern Mediterranean, Latin America, the Eastern Partnership and India; a strategic partnership with the United Kingdom; the transatlantic links
The European Movement (EM) Germany and the European Commission Representation in Germany invite you to a digital EBD Briefing: Portuguese EU Council Presidency on 13 January 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
H.E. Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes, Portuguese ambassador in Germany will present the programme of Portugal’s council presidency. Andres Peschke, head of the European Directorate-General at the Federal Foreign Office and Dr Kirsten Scholl, head of the Department for European Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy will subsequently asses the working programme from the perspective of the Federal German government. Dr Jörg Wojahn, representative of the European Commission in Germany and Christian Petry MP, vice-president of EM Germany will then open the discussion. Bernd Hüttemann, Secretary General of EM Germany will moderate the event.

Am 1. Januar 2021 übernimmt Portugal die EU-Ratspräsidentschaft. Portugal folgt damit dem Programm der Trio-Ratspräsidentschaft Deutschland – Slowenien – Portugal. Das portugiesische Präsidentschaftsprogramm steht unter dem Titel „Time to deliver: for a fair, green and digital recovery„. Die gemeinsame Überwindung der COVID-19-Krise und die Bewältigung ihrer sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen stehen im Fokus der Präsidentschaft.
Die Europäische Bewegung Deutschland e.V. (EBD) lädt herzlich zum EBD Briefing portugiesische EU-Ratspräsidentschaft am 13.01.2021 ein, das voraussichtlich als hybrides Format stattfinden wird.
Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes, portugiesischer Botschafter zu Deutschland, stellt das Ratspräsidentschaftsprogramm Portugals vor. Andreas Peschke, Leiter der Europaabteilung im Auswärtigen Amt, und Dr. Kirsten Scholl, Leiterin der Abteilung für Europapolitik im Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi), bewerten anschließend das Arbeitsprogramm aus Sicht der deutschen Bundesregierung. Erstkommentare geben Dr. Jörg Wojahn, Vertreter der Europäischen Kommission in Deutschland, und EBD-Präsidentin Dr. Linn Selle. EBD-Generalsekretär Bernd Hüttemann moderiert die Veranstaltung.
